If you purchased or upgraded your Big Cartel theme after 29th November 2011, please refer to Aarcade Support instead of the following article.

If your Big Cartel theme is a premium version, it will include home page slide show custom options as detailed in the support article How do I add a slide show to my Big Cartel home page? Later theme versions may include a primary custom option for changing the location of your slide show. The following instructions are provided for themes that do not have this option.

1. Identify the URL of your new slide show page

Navigate to the Design > Pages section of your shop admin and click note the URL of the page you want your slide show to appear on. For example:

Page URL

Note your page URL

In the above example we want the slide show to appear on the Our Lookbook page, so we note that the page URL is:

/our-lookbook

2. Edit your slide show script code

From the Design > Pages section of your shop admin, click the page titleĀ Layout.

Layout Page

Accessing the Layout page code

On the following page, scroll through the text box content until you find the following line of code. If necessary, use your web browser’s find text function, typically located in your Edit > Find browser menu, and search for “nivo-slider“.

{% if page.url == '/' and slide_show_images contains 'http' and display_slide_show == 'yes' %}
<script type='text/javascript' src='{{ tools_url }}/nivo-slider.js'></script>

Change theĀ page.url check value to your page URL that you noted in step 1.

{% if page.url == '/our-lookbook' and slide_show_images contains 'http' and display_slide_show == 'yes' %}
<script type='text/javascript' src='{{ tools_url }}/nivo-slider.js'></script>

Your code should now look similar to this:

Edit Big Cartel Slide Show Script

3. Edit your slide show insertion code

Scrolling further through the text box content, find the following line of code. If necessary, use your web browser’s find text function and search for “slide_main“.

{% if page.url == '/' and slide_show_images contains 'http' and display_slide_show == 'yes' %}
<div id="slide_main">
<div id="slide_wrap">

Change the page.url check value to your page URL that you noted in step 1.

{% if page.url == '/our-lookbook' and slide_show_images contains 'http' and display_slide_show == 'yes' %}
<div id="slide_main">
<div id="slide_wrap">

Your code should now look similar to this:

Slide Show Edit

4. Save and set up your slide show

Click the Save button when you have finished editing your Layout page code.

You can now use your slide show controls, as detailed in the support article How do I add a slide show to my Big Cartel home page?, to control the display of your slide show on your page.
